First, the honesty of representation, which is the essence of the whole idea: the sample that reaches you is not display stock carefully selected to tempt you, but a handful from the same inventory you will buy your kilogram or shipment from, after the same sorting and by the same declared grade criteria. A sample that lies to you is worse than no sample, because it pushes you into a commitment built on an illusion.

Second, the quantity: 100 grams is genuinely enough to judge. The usual session consumes 7 to 12 grams, so our sample gives you 8 to 15 full sessions: a first burn for the impression, comparison sessions under different conditions, and a remainder you keep as a reference to compare your coming shipment against. The five grams distributed in the markets under the name of a sample are not even enough to heat the charcoal.

Third, an open economic calculation: yes, the sample is relatively more expensive than the kilogram, and by our own figures: the Black Kalimantan sample at thirty riyals per 100 grams while the kilogram works out to 27.5 riyals per 100 grams, a difference exceeding 8 percent per gram. This difference is not a loss but an insurance premium: three extra riyals protect you from a mistake of hundreds of riyals had you bought a kilogram that does not suit you, and from a mistake of thousands had you been a merchant who imported what his market does not ask for.

And finally, a consideration we say honestly: no free samples with us, and you will not find them. Real quality costs, and the free sample in the oud market usually means either a quantity too small to judge by, or a quality other than what you will receive. We let you pay an honest price and receive an honest representation, for this is the fair sample deal.

How do you evaluate your sample? The experts' protocol

A sample without an evaluation method is just small kindling. This is the protocol we recommend:

The day of arrival: burn nothing. Inspect the appearance: the resin's color and its distribution in the pieces, the weight in the hand, the firmness of the break. Then the cold scent: bring the piece close to your nose and record your first impression, for it is a reference you will return to.

The second and third day: the trial burn under fixed conditions: a clean burner, fully lit charcoal not at its start, a small piece of a fixed size, and a closed, moderately ventilated place. Do not receive guests and do not compete with another perfume in the air.

Record three numbers: the persistence in hours from the first smoke until the trace fades from the place, the density of the smoke and its color, and the development of the scent: the opening in the first minutes, the heart after a quarter hour, and the remaining trace in the clothes and place after hours. A sample for which you record these three has become a documented decision, not a passing impression.

How do you compare two samples fairly?

A fair comparison fixes every variable except the oud: the same burner after cleaning it of the previous burn's trace, the same amount of charcoal and the same degree of its lighting, a close weight from each sample in similarly sized pieces, and the same place with its doors and windows in the same state. And the time of day matters more than people think: the nose in the early morning is other than after the dinner meal, so compare your samples at the same time on consecutive days, not in one glutted day. And leave between the two burns enough for the air and the nose to clear together, for the second sample over the remains of the first is an unjust trial of both.

Common evaluation mistakes

The first is judging from the cold scent alone: oud is created by fire, and how many a piece modest when cold has opened in the ember into a depth it did not promise, and the reverse is true. The second is burning a large quantity in the first trial: a small piece reveals the full signature, and the large quantity saturates the nose in minutes so the development's details are lost, and it burns from your sample what you would have needed for the comparison sessions. The third is evaluating in an open or air-moving place, where the smoke disperses before it builds its layer so you wrong a persistent oud with the charge of weak persistence. The fourth is rushing the judgment: some types reveal their best in the remaining trace after hours, not in the first smoke.

From the sample to the decision

When does a single sample suffice? When you have tried the type before and want to confirm a new batch, or when your question is specific: do I like this particular type or not. But if your question is open: which oud suits me? then a single sample answers half the question, and only the comparison completes the answer. And when do you need to re-test? When your sessions contradict: if the sample pleased you one day and let you down another, the variable is usually in your conditions, not in the oud, so re-test with the fixed protocol before you judge. And the final rule: do not move from the sample to the large wholesale directly if you are a merchant, for the kilogram between them is the market test your personal enthusiasm does not replace.

Storing sample remainders

The sample's remainder after evaluation is not scrap but a precious asset: your reference by which you compare the coming shipment. Keep it in a tightly sealed glass or metal container, away from sun, heat, and moisture, and completely isolated from any other oud or perfume so the signatures do not mix. Write on the container the type's name and the purchase date, for the paper's memory is more honest than the nose's after months. Why are there no free samples?

Because our sample is not a token gram of promotional stock, but a full 100 grams drawn from the wholesale batches themselves after sorting, and this is a quantity of real value that costs us what any other sale costs. The free sample in this market usually means one of two things: a quantity too small to judge by, or a quality lower than what you will actually receive. We prefer that you pay an honest price and receive an honest representation.

Is the sample the same quality as the wholesale I will buy?

Yes, and this is the rule we built the whole sample system on: the 100-gram sample is drawn from the same inventory the kilogram and 5-kilogram packs are filled from, after the same sorting and by the same declared grade criteria. There is no separate embellished sample stock with us, so the sample you burn today is the kilogram that reaches you tomorrow.

How many burning sessions does a 100-gram sample give me?

The usual session consumes between 7 and 12 grams depending on the size of the pieces and the generosity of the hand, that is, 100 grams is practically enough for between 8 and 15 sessions. And this is the intent of the sample size with us: a first trial burn, then comparison sessions under different conditions, then a remainder enough to present the oud to your household or customers before the decision.

How many samples do I order to start?

Two to four, no more. A single sample gives you no reference for comparison, and six samples at once scatter your nose and memory. The tested recipe for the beginner: two samples far apart in price and character that draw the map's edges for you, and for the serious seeker: three samples of successive grades that reveal to you exactly where your taste stops.

Is the sample price deducted from a later wholesale order?

Honestly: there is no automatic system for deducting the sample price from later orders currently. But the merchant who tried the samples and then submitted a real wholesale order, we advise to mention that when requesting the quote via the quote or contact page, for the terms of large wholesale orders are discussed case by case.

What is the best way to compare two samples?

Fix everything except the oud: the same burner, the same amount of charcoal, a close weight from each sample, and the same place. Leave enough time between the two samples for the air and nose to clear, and record your notes right after each burn, not at the end of the day. And never compare more than two samples in one day, for the nose saturates and begins to lie to you.

How long does the samples shipment take to reach me?

Oud is a natural product that varies slightly between batches however fixed the sorting criteria, and we do not hide that. What we guarantee is that every batch is sorted by the same declared grade criteria and inspected before shipping, so the variation stays within the grade's bounds, not outside them. And our constant advice: keep your sample's remainder as a reference to compare your next shipment against.

Can I order a sample from each origin at once?

Yes, and this is what we call the origins path: a sample from Kalimantan, Sumatra, Papua, and Merauke in a single shipment, so you compare the archipelago's islands side by side at a cost less than the price of a single kilogram of a mid type. I am a merchant: do you provide documented samples for business?

Yes, merchant samples are treated as commercial orders: an official invoice in your company's name stating the type, origin, grade, and weight, so the sample becomes a reference document you compare later wholesale shipments against before your supplier and accountant together. Can samples be returned?

If the sample reaches you damaged or contrary to its declared description, contact us within days of receipt with documented photos and we address it with replacement or compensation per our declared policy. As for a difference of personal taste, that is not a defect in the product, and this is exactly the reason the sample exists: for the goods to be tested at the least possible amount before any larger commitment.

How do I pay for the samples?

Like any order in the store: add the samples to the basket and pay by the electronic payment methods available at checkout. No special procedures and no prior correspondence, for the samples are designed to be the easiest entry door to the whole store.

How do I store the sample's remainder after trying it?
