What distinguishes the daily grade? The whole ladder first
You will not understand a grade except by its position among its siblings, so this is our whole five-tier ladder with its four criteria: resin density, persistence, piece purity, and origin rarity. Each higher grade means a higher measure in these four, and the scale is one from the base to the summit:

62.52 riyals: the most balanced of the four between resin density and price, a variety that, when you weigh it on the four criteria, sits exactly in the middle of the grade: above the threshold and clearly below the commercial's ceiling.
Sumatran slices: the working form
62.52 riyals: its classification is daily by its resin's criteria, and its slice form earns it an additional practical role: the most suitable for grinding, blends, and making bukhoor, where the form is half the decision.
Merauke asqoon enhanced: the grade's ceiling

Quality and grading: the acceptance threshold before the grades

The daily grade's oud comes out of the same forests the most expensive we sell comes from: Indonesia and its neighborhood, through direct relations with the oud harvesters, then the sorting and grading at the preparation centers in Malaysia. The difference between our grades is made by the sorting, not the source: the single tree gives pieces of varying resin, so each piece goes to its grade by one scale. The actual sorting session as it happens
When the batch arrives at the preparation centers it passes three stations we relay transparently. First the visual inspection: the pieces are spread under strong lighting and turned one by one, for the visible dark resin veins are the first witness, and the pale piece of similar faces raises suspicion however its papers claim. Second the relative weight: the resin is heavier than the wood's fibers, so the rich piece feels heavy in the hand relative to its size, and this is an old test known to everyone who worked in oud. Third the burning of samples: from every batch actual samples are burned, for the nose is the final judge of the burning's cleanliness, the scent's honesty, and the length of the breath. And on the sum of the three the piece is weighed on the four criteria and takes its grade, and next month's batch repeats the same journey from its beginning.
Why are the declared grades more important than the fancy names?
The market is full of names that bind their owners to nothing: royal, sultani, and very luxury are handed out on the goods with no single written definition, so you cannot ask the seller why this is royal and that is not. The declared grade is exactly the opposite: written criteria we are held accountable by, so if we say daily it is because the density and persistence are in this declared range, and if we say luxury it is for reasons you can review us on. The fancy name serves the seller, and the declared criterion serves you.
When is the daily the smartest decision?
In four clear cases: if your consumption is repeated such that it makes the higher grades an unsustainable financial burden, for the daily habit needs a habit's price. And if you are a beginner training his nose, for learning on cheap pieces of real resin is more useful than burning money on differences you do not yet distinguish. The Black Kalimantan is pure 100, so how is it in the daily grade?
Because the grade with us is measured by density and persistence, not by the word pure alone: purity of treatment is one thing and resin density is another. The Black Kalimantan is pure in treatment but its resin is lighter and its persistence shorter than its siblings in the higher grades, so its honest position is here and its price of thirty riyals reflects that honestly. Had we classified it higher for the word pure, we would have wronged whoever pays.
What do you exclude entirely from your store?
Everything below the declared acceptance threshold: wood with no visible resin sold under the name of oud, pieces with a polluted burning or treatment scents covering the resin's poverty, and goods of unknown origin we cannot be honest in attributing. Our sorting excludes, does not demote: what fell below the threshold does not descend to the daily but leaves the whole store.
Can a product's grade change over time?
Yes, because the grade follows the batch, not the name: the same variety may have its new batch come heavier in resin so it rises, or lighter so it descends. We sort every batch on the same four criteria, and this is why you may see one name in two grades over time. This is not a disorder but the very meaning of honest sorting.
Is this ladder of yours a unified global standard?
Honestly: there is no unified global standard for grading oud to begin with, and the market knows this and exploits it with fancy names of no definition. Our five-tier ladder is our own methodology, of declared criteria so you can hold us accountable by them: resin density, persistence, piece purity, and origin rarity. We do not claim it is the planet's measure, but we promise you it is our fixed measure that does not change with the change of the goods.
When do I know the time for an upgrade to a higher grade has come?
When your nose gives you the signals: you have come to distinguish the scent's stages, not merely its presence, the shortness of the persistence has come to bother you in your long sessions, and you have come to want for the occasion an oud other than the day's oud. Then begin with the commercial grade as a bridge, and do not jump to the luxury directly so you pay for differences your nose has not yet trained to read.
