The source and origin: the Banda Sea and the spice routes
Centuries before the Europeans arrived, the old spice routes connected Maluku with the world: the traders of the Malays, the Javanese, the Chinese, and the Arabs carried clove and nutmeg from the Banda Sea to the ports of Asia, and from them to the markets of Baghdad, Cairo, and Venice.
