Customer Inspection: The Seventeenth Step in the Journey of Oud

When the oud reaches the customer, a moment begins that they alone own: the customer's inspection of the oud upon receipt. For it is their right to make sure that what reached them matches what they ordered and was described to them — in grade, weight, soundness, and scent. In this article we address the customer's inspection as a right, not an accusation, what they inspect, and what they do if they find what contradicts the description.

Where does this article sit? This article is the seventeenth axis of the journey of oud from the Indonesian forest to the Gulf customer's majlis, and it comes after arrival at the importer: after the shipment is received, the customer inspects it themselves.

The customer's inspection is a right, not an accusation

It is the right of the customer who paid for a precious piece to inspect it upon receipt. For the inspection is not a doubt in the store nor an accusation against it, but a natural right that ensures what arrived matches what was described. And the store confident in its goods welcomes this inspection, because it knows its piece will pass the test.

And here the fruit of all the prior documentation and photography shows: the customer compares what is in their hands with what they saw in the image and read in the description. And the more honest the description and the photography, the easier the customer's inspection and the more reassuring its result.

What does the customer inspect?

The customer usually inspects several things: the grade's conformity with what was ordered, the weight's conformity with what was paid for, the soundness of the pieces from breakage or damage on the road, and finally the scent — the essence of oud that the image does not convey. For the customer smells the piece themselves to make sure its character agrees with what was described.

Did you know? The inspection reveals the honesty of the description

The moment of the customer's inspection is the moment in which the honesty of everything the store said is tested: the grade, the weight, the image. For the honest store's goods withstand the inspection, and the exaggerating one is exposed. So winning the customer's trust begins steps before the inspection, in the honesty of the description.

What if what arrived contradicts the description?

If the customer finds what contradicts the description — a shortfall in weight, a difference in grade, or damage to the piece — the way is immediate contact with the store. And here the worth of the precise documentation shows: the batch record and the tracking number can be referred to in order to know where the fault occurred, whether in the description, the shipping, or something else. And the serious store handles the matter with transparency, not with evasion.

And we see this moment as a true test of the store's commitment: for dealing with the customer's objection honestly and responsibly is what builds trust over the long term, more than any marketing promise.

From customer inspection to storing

When the customer inspects the oud and is reassured of its conformity, the oud becomes truly theirs. And it remains for them to preserve it well so its fragrance lasts: for after the acquisition comes storing, which preserves the piece's scent from evaporation and prolongs its life in their majlis. For the inspection closed the loop of receipt, and storing opens the loop of caring for the piece after owning it.

And thus the customer's inspection has closed the loop of importing and delivery. And in the following axis of this journey we move to the eighteenth step: storing the oud.

Did you know? The inspection is the last bridge of trust

The customer's inspection is the last bridge between the store's promise and the reality of the piece. For what the store described, photographed, and documented is tested here by the customer's hand and nose. And the success of this inspection is the fruit of every step that preceded it in the journey.
